Postdoc Postion at the Democratic Innovations Research Unit

Post-Doctoral Fellow (m/f/d)

(E 13 TV-G-U, full-time)

starting 01.11.2024 for a term of three years with the option of extension. The salary grade is based on the job characteristics of the collective agreement applicable to Goethe University (TV-G-U).

The position is open to individuals of all nationalities. The Postdoc will be part of the Research Unit ‘Democratic Innovations’, headed by Professor Brigitte Geissel. (See Goethe-Universität – (goethe-university-frankfurt.de)). The fellow should work on democratic innovations, broadly conceived. Applicants whose research is empirical and comparative are especially welcome.

Duties of the post

  • to teach (4 LVS/hours per week during semester), supervise, and advise students (B.A. and M.A.), which includes responsibility for student examination
  • to engage in independent advanced study and research on questions of democracy
  • to publish research results regularly (peer reviewed journals)
  • to actively support the activities of the Research Unit on Democratic Innovations: this includes working on funding applications, international networking, and PR
  • to assume administrative tasks

Selection criteria

  • completed academic university degree (Master/Diploma) and an outstanding doctorate in political science or a related discipline
  • thorough knowledge of current theories of democracy
  • advanced skills in quantitative and qualitative methods
  • proven experience in theory-driven, empirical research on democratic innovations
  • excellent knowledge of spoken and written English
  • basic knowledge of German
  • experience of and commitment to working in a team
  • engagement, commitment
